Topics of the Week - Archive

Thank you to all the folks who took the time to complete our e-communications survey! The majority of respondents agreed that a change from monthly electronic communications to a more focused Topic of the Week was needed. Please watch your mailbox at the end of the day each Friday for the Topic of the Week. It will also be posted to the NTSAD homepage.

Through the American Express Members Project the Cure Tay-Sachs project could receive up to $5 MILLION dollars for research but we need your help to make it happen. Ken Bihn, Dakota's dad and founder of the Cure Tay-Sachs Foundation wrote in a recent email blast the project is Cure Tay-Sachs – it is not specific to our new foundation or NTSAD or anything else . It is our chance to get $5 million for research – that would be VERY significant.   Clearly it is a long shot – but we'll overcome bigger odds along this road we are going to travel.

Visit www.membersproject.com today and search for project 3504 in the upper right hand corner search box. Rate the Cure Tay-Sachs project and post why curing Tay-Sachs is important to you, only American Express cardholders may vote. Starting July 3 rd you can vote for your favorite project. Together we can make this happen! Be sure to let your friends and family know about this great opportunity!

Many PSG Members utilize DrugStore.com to simplify their complicated lives. Now by shopping at DrugStore.com through www.iGive.com NTSAD will receive 4.8% of the purchase! Plus, for each new shopper at www.iGive.com NTSAD will receive a $5 donation. To date NTSAD has received over $200 from shoppers on www.iGive.com !

Thought of the Week
Happiness does not come from doing easy work but from the afterglow of satisfaction that comes after the achievement of a difficult task that demanded our best.
– Theodore Isaac Rubin

Topic of the Week: GINA PASSED CONGRESS!!!
On May 1, the Genetic Information Nondiscrimination Act (GINA) passed the House overwhelmingly by a 414-1 vote, six days after it passed the Senate unanimously by a 95-0 vote. The House approved the version of the bill (H.R. 493) amended by the Senate. The bill now awaits the signature of President Bush, who has expressed support for GINA and is likely to sign the bill.

The Coalition of Genetic Fairness and Senator Kennedy, a champion of GINA, extend a big thank you to all of those in the NTSAD Family who reached out to their Congress men and women and requested support of this important legislation. GINA will enable Americans to be better informed about their health, and to make choices without fear of discrimination by employers or insurance companies.
